Winter Break

I haven't posted a blog in awhile so I though I'd take this time to write a quick note. As you know Mrs. Trammell and I are job sharing this year and it's been going fantastic. The kids have been amazing and have adjusted well to having two teachers. In fact I think they rather enjoy it. Unfortunately this will be the only year Mrs. Trammell and I get to share our teaching responsibilities. We are very saddened by this and wish that we could continue to serve the second grade students at our school, but we can't at this time.  But more on that later...

As of the break we were working on double digit subtraction and just starting to borrow to find the answer. They are starting to really grasp the concept and we are very proud of all their dedication and hard work.

In science we have been talking about Force and Motion. Ask your child about gravity and see what they can share with you about this unseen force.

In language arts we have been focusing on integrating science into this area so that they are immersed in the topic and they seem to really enjoy learning science concepts this way. We are also talking about inferring what a word means via context clues. This is an ongoing process.

They have learned about the ginger bread boy and Christmas Around the World.  As well as some other holidays that are celebrated at this time of the year around the world.

In writing we are working on adding details to our stories and including such things as sound words like wham or moo. We have also talked about adding more adjectives to our work to make the reader really see what we are describing. We also continue to work on what is a noun and a very, and the telling part and the naming part of sentences. All these things combine to make your child a better writer.

I look forward to finding out what the year 2016 will bring to our second grade class.
